Main Street, Henderson County farm roads, Flat Rock, and DuPont sit in distinct parts of the trip.

Three nights provide two full days for the county roads between a Main Street arrival and a departure-day waterfall walk.

The Henderson

A historic downtown inn pairs individually decorated guest rooms with an on-site restaurant and shaded front porch.

Main activity

Apple Orchards

Start with Henderson County's orchards in season, then use the second full day for one wine, cider, or brewery cluster.

Trip shape

Downtown, two county routes, waterfalls

Each full day stays in one part of Henderson County instead of crossing the county between every stop.

Arrival

Main Street after check-in.

Walk the broad historic blocks around the Henderson County Courthouse, browse local shops, and eat downtown without starting the mountain roads after dark.

4:00 PM

Day 2

Orchard country, then Flat Rock.

In harvest season, choose the east-county U-pick route or Sky Top's southern route—not both—then eat before continuing to Flat Rock. At Carl Sandburg Home, use the temporary Front Lake route and expect portable toilets rather than water or restrooms near the home while Hurricane Helene repairs continue.

9:30 AM

Main activity

Choose the east-county farms or Sky Top.

For the east-county route, pick at Stepp's for two to three hours or make Grandad's a shorter market-and-bakery stop; do not attempt every farm. For the southern route, reserve Sky Top U-pick and remain near Flat Rock. Eat at a farm when food is operating or leave time for lunch before 2:00 p.m.

3:30 PM

Afternoon

Continue to Flat Rock after lunch.

From Sky Top, Carl Sandburg Home is about three miles away. From the east-county farms, allow a longer cross-town transfer and leave the orchard by early afternoon. Choose the Sandburg grounds, Flat Rock village, or a ticketed Playhouse performance rather than stacking all three before dinner.

Day 3

Choose one Cheers! Trail cluster.

Use Mills River for the most complete food-and-tour day: lunch and cider at Bold Rock, then a reserved Sierra Nevada tour or taproom stop before returning downtown. The trail guide has a compact Saint Paul and Appalachian Ridge alternative.

11:00 AM

Wine, cider, beer, or mead

Lunch in Mills River, then one brewery campus.

Reach Bold Rock around 11:00 a.m. for lunch and a cider flight, then leave about 1:00 p.m. for a reserved Sierra Nevada tour or taproom visit. Tour choices run from 60 minutes to three hours, so book the format before arranging the driver. Start back toward Hendersonville by 4:30 p.m.

3:30 PM

Afternoon

Return to Main Street or Seventh Avenue.

Park before the evening stop. Downtown and Seventh Avenue breweries sit closer to restaurants than the rural vineyards and Mills River campuses.

Departure

DuPont waterfalls before the drive home.

Check out with breakfast finished, then use the daylight window for the waterfall trail from Hooker Falls or High Falls access.

9:00 AM

Departure morning

Finish breakfast and check DuPont's notices.

Eat before leaving town and carry water for the trail. DuPont currently lists the Triple Falls stairs and Turkey Knob Trail bridge closed; recheck the forest notice before driving south.
